GA Farm to School Summit 2015

The GA Farm to School and Preschool Summit, presented by the Georgia Farm to School Alliance and hosted by Georgia Organics, is happening in Athens on February 19 and 20th. The F2S Summit brings together actors involved in farm to school initiatives from across the state (and region!) to learn from each other and collaborate on strategies for progressing Farm to School.

Clarke County Receives Golden Radish Award!

Last week, representatives of the Athens-Clarke County School District traveled to the state capitol in Atlanta to receive the prestigious state-wide Golden Radish Award, a Georgia Organics award given to school districts that show outstanding leadership and hard work in building farm to school programs. Athens-Clarke County was awarded a Golden Radish at the Gold Level, the highest level possible. Read more about the Golden Radish Award Ceremony here.

Did you order fall plants for your school garden? You can pick those up, too!

Forgot to order plants? We will be distributing seeds for free even if you didn’t order plants!

If you’re a new visitor to the farmers market: enjoy $5 free to spend at the market through the My Market Program. So farmers market veterans, bring a friend!!

Fall Vegetable Gardening Workshop

Fall is the ideal season for growing many vegetables! Attend this free workshop to learn fall gardening basics. Taught by UGA College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences faculty, the workshop will include tips for soil preparation, what crops to plant, planting tips and maintenance.

If you are opposed to having highly processed junk food allowed in Georgia schools, act now to let the Georgia State Board of Education know. The board votes THIS THURSDAY on whether or not to allow 90 days of junk food fundraisers in schools.

Georgia Shape is also accepting applications for grants–any school can apply, but must do so by AUGUST 29th.
